Just recently, Jordanian celebrity and comedienne Mais Hamdan earned the ire of Filipinos when she made fun of a Filipina who could not speak English as well as the comedienne can when she was guested in a comedy show. The video made its rounds on the internet for days, to the great humiliation of the Filipina in the footage.



Mais Hamdan is known for her multilingualism, being fluent in four different languages, one of which is English. Still, Filipinos believed that this does not give her the right to insult and make fun of anyone who is not at par with her lingual skills. They said that for the Filipina in the comedy show, it must have been extremely humiliating to be made into a joke and have her mistakes laughed at.



Recently, Hamdan took to Instagram to apologize to everyone that her video might have offended, saying that it was her job to exaggerate and make fun of things as she was a comedienne. She explained how she did not intend to offend, insult, or hurt anyone, precisely because the purpose of her job is to make people smile. She added that this was the reason for her jokes and exaggerations in the video, but at the same time apologized because she did not want nor expect to offend anyone. She asked for the understanding of those who were offended, and offered her apologies.



Hamdan’s apology on Instagram garnered mixed reactions from netizens, some believing that she was sincere. Still, others were not quite convinced, saying that the apology was just for show, and that it only proves how ‘good’ of an actress she is.
