"PARANG LAMAS NA YAN AH", ISANG BABAENG GINAMOT NG ALBULARYO MULA SA KULAM PERO UMALMA TALAGA ANG NETIZEN DAHIL DITO!

“Kulam” or hexing is a kind of folk magic that is locally practiced in certain areas of our country. It is usually associated with black magic since most people use it to curse someone – so to speak – or exact revenge in a supernatural manner.

The practice is prominent in places like Siquijor, Talalora, Samar, Leyte and Sorsogon. This is because faith healers reside in the areas mentioned, particularly in the more mountainous regions. Locals would go to them to be healed of their ailments. However, there are those who seek a “mangkukulam” (the one who practices “kulam”) to cast a hex on someone – most likely their enemies or people who have terribly wronged them.

Even though most modern people do not believe in the idea of magic, there are others who insist that it is real. One Facebook user shared a video of a young woman who was allegedly cursed by her own best friend. The viral video was originally posted on Dec. 25, 2017, but netizens are still talking about the video – sharing their various opinions on the matter.

According to the uploader, the young woman grew boils or bumps on her back due to the “kulam” done on her. Her body also experienced painful sensations on a regular basis. Apart from that, she supposedly cannot sleep properly. She attributed these to the effects of the curse that was placed on her. Towards the end of the interrogation, the young woman revealed the hexer’s identity.

In another Facebook post by the same netizen, he defended himself from the comments which say that he was s*xually taking advantage of the woman in the video. Apparently, he was the one who interrogated the young woman who was hexed.

According to an episode of the show “Red Alert,” the concept of “kulam” is real – at least, according to someone they interviewed. The person was identified as “Tin.”

She claimed that her own mother was approached by someone who introduced herself as a “manggagamot” or a faith healer. The manggagamot claimed that her own mother was cursed. In the end, they found out that it was all a scam.

Apparently, people have openly claimed that they were as faith healers as a way to trick or scam people.Philippine Star columnist Jim Paredes once interviewed a 23-year-old “mangkukulam” back in May of 2015.

Based on his article, the “mangkukulams” believe that they exist to restore the “balance” in the world. These self-professed witches or shamans essentially hex people they believe deserve justice.

The “mangkukulam” said they use their abilities to seek retribution for others who were cursed by other witch doctors. It is a method that can be used to exact vengeance for being abused, violated, or wronged.
