Two civilians were killed following a shooting incident that occurred on Thursday evening, December 28, at the corner of Wack Wack and Shaw Boulevard. A miscommunication between the barangay watchmen and the police led to a case of mistaken identity, killing two civilians and putting two others in a very critical condition.

According to Mandaluyong police chief Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran, police received word that the barangay watchmen were in pursuit of suspects in an earlier shooting incident where a woman had been shot. The police have been told that the suspects’ getaway car was a white Mitsubishi Adventure. When they saw the barangay watchmen shooting at a white Mistubishi Adventure along Shaw Boulevard, the police felt the need to help and started shooting at the vehicle as well.

The vehicle, however, was apparently transporting Jocelyn Ambaon, the woman who was the victim of the earlier shooting incident that the barangay watchmen were referring to. One of the passengers who survived, Mhury Jamon, recounted how they were shouting and explaining that they were transporting an injured woman, begging the police and barangay watchmen to stop shooting.

The shooting ended up killing Ambaon, the injured woman, and Jomar Hayaun, another passenger. Hayaun died on the spot while Ambaon died in the hospital. Eliseo “Bobot” Aluad, Ambaon’s live-in partner as well as Danilo Santiago, the driver, remain in critical condition. Jamon said that the barangay watchmen insisted on apprehending them even though they have already told the village watchmen that they were rushing an injured woman to the hospital.

“Sumisigaw kami na pasyente ang dala namin, pero hindi kami napakinggan, pinadapa lang kami. Pinadapa kami ng mga pulis. Pero hindi kami pinakinggan na pasyente ang dala namin,” Jamon said during a media briefing.

“Bago sila magpaputok, nagsabi sila na, ‘Kapag hindi kayo bumaba, papuputukan namin kayo.’ Eh hindi nga po makababa… Hindi talaga makakababa kasi yung pasyente namin naka-dagan dun kay Kuya Bobot (Aluad) kaya hindi siya makakilos,” he further explained.
