A 9-year-old boy died on Sunday afternoon, January 7, after a fire hit their residence in Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. The casualty was identified as James Sorbilla, who reportedly failed to open the locked door during the incident.



Sorbilla was still holding the Bible when his body was recovered by firemen.



According to reports the boy came home from church service and fell asleep.



Fire Fighters and volunteers from 23 Barangays in Cebu City participated and show their skills in fire fighting on the 2nd Inter-Barangay Fire Olympics 2015 in observance of the Fire Prevention Month 2015 at the Cebu business Park Gorunds on March 27, 2015.



He was alone in the house as his sibling playing outside when the fire began. His grandmother and other siblings were also not home.



The City fire station received the alarm at 3 p.m. It lasted for 8 minutes. Authorities estimate the damage caused by the fire at around P15,000.



Initial probe reveals the incident may be caused by a short circuit. The fire spread quickly due to combustible materials inside the house.
