AMO NG PUMANAW NA SI JOANNA DEMAFELIS INAMIN NA BUHAY PA SIYA NG INILAGAY NILA SA FREEZER!

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Friday, February 23, the arrest of Nader Essam Assaf, one of the principal suspects in the brutal murder of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Joanna Demafelis. The Lebanese national was nabbed by Lebanese authorities.

DFA Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano has informed President Rodrigo Roa Duterte regarding this matter. Cayetano also stated that Assaf’s Syrian national wife, Mona, is another principal suspect in the Demafelis murder case.

“The President welcomes the news that Nader Essam Assaf is now in the hands of authorities in Lebanon. Assaf’s arrest is a critical first step in our quest for justice for Joanna and we are thankful to our friends in Kuwait and Lebanon for their assistance.”

The DFA reported that Assaf and Mona were chased by Interpol after Kuwaiti authorities found Demafelis’ battered body inside a freezer in the couple’s abandoned apartment. The OFW had been reported missing for over a year prior to the discovery of her body.

Mona is still the subject of an Interpol manhunt and is believed to be in Syria. Kuwaiti Ambassador Mousaed Al-Thwaikh has promised that Kuwaiti authorities will do everything they can to catch the suspects and serve justice to Demafelis’ family.

Cayetano has requested to have Assaf extradited so he could face charges in Kuwait.

The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait reported the capture of Assaf in Manila on the same day that the Philippine President went to Joanna Demafelis’ wake. He reportedly assured the slain OFW’s family that the government will help them seek justice for her death.
